Then there's the building itself, which shows its war damage instead of plastering over it. A guide draws the threads between these pieces and answers follow-up questions where an audio guide simply plays its programme. Both providers state that they adapt the itinerary to the group, even spontaneously during the tour.

The four-hour tour of the island
Four hours, private group, an experienced guide. At its core are three guided introductions of 45 minutes each: at the Bode-Museum, the Pergamon Panorama and the Neues Museum. The remaining time goes toward walking and stops along the way; mentioned are the rotunda of the Altes Museum with the “Praying Boy” and the James Simon Cabinet in the Bode-Museum. At the Neues Museum, the bust of Nefertiti is on the programme.
Included is a day ticket for the buildings of Museum Island — Altes Museum, Alte Nationalgalerie, Bode-Museum, Neues Museum, Pergamon Panorama and PETRI Berlin — plus the licence fee the museums charge for externally guided groups. The two-hour private tour — and the point many people overlook
Two hours, private group of up to ten people, on foot around the island. The route covers the entrance hall of the Bode-Museum, the history of the Pergamonmuseum, the Lustgarten, Berlin Cathedral, the colonnades and rotunda of the Altes Museum, and a guided introduction to the Neues Museum. Neue Wache and Bebelplatz can be added on request; also mentioned are the Schlüterhof of the Humboldt Forum, the sculpture collection of the Friedrichswerdersche Kirche, and the granite bowl in front of the Altes Museum, the largest of its kind in the world.
Important: Included is access to the entrance halls, not full museum admission. This tour therefore does not take you into the North Dome Room. Anyone who wants to see Nefertiti needs a separate museum ticket — the best approach is to book it right away, for a time slot after the tour ends. Who should skip the guided tour
If you have two hours in Berlin and Nefertiti is on your list, book the timed-entry ticket and go alone. The audio guide is included, and it's also available for children and in easy-to-read language. With young children, a four-hour tour is a difficult format anyway — what works in the building is covered at with children. And anyone who would rather photograph Museum Island than have it explained should read the photo rules first: photography is prohibited in the North Dome Room, and the rule is enforced.
Schedule the four-hour tour for a weekday morning. It then starts during the island's quietest hours, and because the day ticket stays valid for the rest of the day, you can return afterwards, at your leisure, to the building that interested you most.
